Best known for his portrayal of Denethor II., 26th Ruling Steward of Gondor and father of Boromir (Sean Bean) and Faramir (David Wenham), in The Return of the King, the last installment of Peter Jackson's movie adaption of J.R.R. Tolkien's fantasy epic The Lord of the Rings, John Noble can also be seen as Denethor in the extended version of the second part of the trilogy, The Two Towers, which makes his character - as Elijah Wood and Sean Astin stated in the cast audio commentary - the first major character ever to be introduced on DVD and in a flashback sequence at that. Now if that doesn't make him special... ;)

Mostly unknown in Europe and the US prior to the release of The Return of the King, John has directed, produced and acted in an impressive number of plays in his native Australia and starred in movies such as The Monkey's Mask, Nostradamus Kid, The Dreaming (detailed filmography can be found here) and most recently Fracture which is currently in post-production.

His TV credits include appearances in series such as All Saints, The Lost World, The Bill, Tales of the South Seas and Police Rescue as well as movies such as The Outsider and Virtual Nightmare.

John Noble also works as a drama coach and was the artistic director of the Stage Company of South Australia for ten years. He directed David Williamson's Sons of Cain in London's West End and has been associated with the Australian prouctions of Cats and Les Misérables (at least that's what I figured that ominous La Miserable has to be... please tell me if I'm wrong).

John has attended several conventions in the past and will hopefully continue to do so in the future to give his fans a chance to meet him. :)

And I don't doubt for a second that one day he will play King Lear... if only I could be there to see it...
